    Notes
    • Per a letter from Patricia D. Smith, 1168 Brown Ave., Lafayette, CA 94549, written Aug. 21, 1997 to Palmer Lee Pace, R. 1, Box 53-B, McAlester, OK 74578 and posted on GenForum Feb. 6, 1998 under the Foreman surname comes the following information:

"We know that Elizabeth Foreman, daughter of Isaac Foreman, only from Census records, which also say she was born in North Carolina. Isaac's widow was Sarah, but we can find no record of their marriage in North Carolina, and thus cannot be certain that she is the mother of all those children. We KNOW that Isaac's father was George whose will was written in 1786, naming widow Charity. But we cannot find a record of his marriage in NC, and therefore cannot be sure Charity was the mother of all George's children. We who share notes, FEEL that our line is William Foreman of Surry Co., VA.
Perhaps the one transported by 1650's, established as a responsible, land-owning citizen by the 1660's. Served as lawyer, was sub-sheriff in the 1690,'s, and died by 1702 in Surry Co. Again we don't know about his marriages, if more than one, or his children. His widow was Hester. A Benjamin Foreman inherited 50 acres (only) as stated in William's will. No one can say for sure that Benjamin was his son, but surely a connection.

By 1717 Benjamin and his wife VERITY were in Chowan Co., N. C. with son William, Benjamin, Jr., and daughter Mary. They can be tracked to Bertie and then to Edgecombe. The only thing, everybody was named Benjamin or William and so far we cannot determine who is who. There are always Samuel, Jacob, George and Isaac.

It has always irked me that we knew so little of Elizabeth Foreman, wife of Silas Pace Jr. We know she became Elizabeth Hill somewhere along the way, and is so recorded in Alabama records. Well, thru a correspondent, got a record of a newspaper notice from Milledgeville paper. WHITMELL HILL advises that his wife Elizabeth Hill has left him. Dragging those five young Paces and the Hill son, one assumes. No county is stated, so more searching is in order, but it sounds right to me. Silas died in 1811, evidently Elizabeth married Hill in 1812, for the notice is dated September 1813. The one Hill child was *Harrison P. Hill. I think the P is for Pace. "

*Note: This appears to be an error; there are three sons named in Whitmell Hill's will referencing his three sons by his former marriages; Allen, James Harrison, and William B.

The following was posted Nov. 1998 by Mr. Palmer Lee Pace under the Pace surname on Gen Forum.
